DIY Growth Ruler Charts

1) Buy a board from your local store. I choose to router the edges for a  nice finished look.

2)I add a keyhole to the back so it hangs flush against the wall. I sand the board by hand

3)Choose your stain color and bring out the wood grain! I love this part! Let the stain dry for 8-12 hours 

4) I seal the back with 4 coats of polyurethane. I soft sand between each coat. This will take a couple days. Allow each coat to dry for 8-12 hrs. 

5)After the back is finished, Start measuring all the lines. I start 6" from he bottom so you can hang the board 6" from the floor and bypass the floor boards.

6) I measure the every ft with a line at 2 1/2" Then measure every half foot at 2 inches. Then measure every quarter at 1 1/2" and every inch at 1" lines.

Use any choice of stencil fonts. I use 3" numbers. I hand paint the lines and numbers with craft acrylic paint. Don't worry if your lines are a little shaky. This is handmade and you are not a factory machine. That's what makes these so special! After you have painted, it is ready to seal! I seal the front with 6 coats of polyurethane. I soft sand between each coat. allowing each coat to dry for 8-12 hrs in between. The last coat, I allow to dry for 72 hours before use. Both sides should be very smooth!! You can now use a sharpie marker to write all your memories!
